Instagram does not provide a notification or list that identifies people who unfollowed you. To see changes over time, compare two copies of your follower list taken at different times. Meta's official data export gives you those copies for free, without giving a third party access to your account.
Here is what each method can honestly deliver, and why the first snapshot matters most.
Does Instagram show you who unfollowed you?
No. A follow can generate a notification, but Instagram does not provide a corresponding unfollow notification or list.
Your followers list is not a substitute. It shows who follows you now, and it does not mark anyone as recently departed. A tool that did not have an earlier record cannot determine who was in that list last month.
What you can do is start recording today.
What are the ways to check?
There are three common approaches, with different trade-offs.
Memory and manual scrolling. Free and safe, but difficult to use at scale and unable to create a reliable history by itself.
Apps that ask for your Instagram password. They may be quick to set up, but giving credentials to a third party creates a security risk. How do I get my follower list from Instagram?
- Instagram → your profile → the menu → Accounts Center.
- Your information and permissions → Export your information (older builds say Download your information).
- Select the Instagram profile you want, then choose Export to device.
- Choose Customize information, clear everything, and tick only Followers and following.
- Set Date range to All time and Format to JSON. The checker uses JSON; HTML is intended for reading in a browser.
- Start the export and wait for Meta's email. The email is a dependable signal: when it arrives, the file is ready.

How do I see the unfollowers?
By comparison. The export contains your followers and following lists as they stand today; it does not identify people who unfollowed you.
So the arithmetic runs across two exports:
- Unfollowers = accounts in the older follower list but absent from the newer one
- New Followers = the reverse
- Broken Mutuals = an account that was present on both sides and is absent from both in the newer snapshot
