We make UnfollowPeek, so keep that in mind as you read. Every claim below comes from the two apps' App Store listings or our own product page, checked November 4, 2026.
If you want to see who doesn't follow you back on Instagram, UnfollowPeek and FANS both take the safer route: neither one asks for your Instagram password. Both read the data export you download from Instagram, and both say they compare your follower lists on your device. Where they differ is how much you see for free, whether you can keep a history, Threads support, and which devices they run on.

Start with what you can see for free
FANS is free to download, but its App Store listing says: "To reveal all unfollowers, a Pro subscription is required." (FANS's own blog describes this as the complete non-follower list.) UnfollowPeek's free version shows the full Not Following Back list, plus unfollowers, new followers and broken mutuals, with room for two saved snapshots. If your question is "Who doesn't follow me back?", UnfollowPeek answers it without a subscription.
A non-follower isn't necessarily an unfollower
One export shows who doesn't follow you back on the day you downloaded it. It can't show who used to follow you. For that, you need an earlier export to compare against.
UnfollowPeek is built around that comparison. It saves each import as a snapshot and separates unfollowers, people who left between two snapshots, from people who never followed you back. The free version holds two snapshots; Pro adds unlimited snapshots, connection timestamps and username-change detection. FANS's listing says it "updates your list using your most recent data." It doesn't describe keeping earlier imports to compare.
Even with two snapshots, a comparison only tells you that someone left between those two exports. It can't tell you the exact moment.
Read the privacy labels
Both apps say your follower lists are processed on your device. Apple's App Privacy section covers the rest of the data an app handles, as reported by each developer. Apple notes it hasn't verified these labels.
- FANS lists purchases and identifiers under "Data Used to Track You," which Apple defines as data that "may be used to track you across apps and websites owned by other companies." Its label also lists identifiers for third-party advertising, and purchase and usage data for analytics.
- UnfollowPeek has no "Data Used to Track You" section. It lists purchase history and identifiers, not linked to your identity, used only for app functionality.
Neither label contradicts either app's claim that the follower comparison happens on your device.
Where FANS has the advantage
FANS runs on iOS 16 and later. UnfollowPeek needs iOS 18. If your iPhone can't update to iOS 18, you can't install UnfollowPeek, and of the two, FANS is the app that will run on it. FANS is also listed for Apple silicon Macs; UnfollowPeek isn't.
You can still check without iOS 18, or on Android or a computer. Our free web checker reads the same Instagram export in your browser, never uploads it, and shows who isn't following you back.
Our recommendation
Choose UnfollowPeek if you want the full not-following-back list for free, saved snapshots that show who unfollowed you, Threads support, or the app in Korean. Choose FANS if your iPhone can't run iOS 18 or you want to use it on a Mac.
Neither app asks for your Instagram password. Before you subscribe to either, check the current App Store listing and the offer shown on your phone.
